Vol. I · First pressing

READING.

Culture, format, and the host who opens a door. Then field notes from the rooms — when members start leaving them.

↳ this issue

Culture · 5 min

A society, not a calendar.

Side A is an intimate album listening society. Hosts list the nights. The platform does not produce them.

Format · 6 min

One album. All the way through.

We do not shuffle. We do not skip the slow track. Side A, then Side B. Forty minutes is not a long time.

Host · 6 min

The host who opens a door.

A composite portrait of the person Side A is built for — and what it actually costs to list a night.

Welcome, Michael.

Topanga

“Michael Jackson’s Bad. I remember it as the first vinyl my family owned, and putting it on and dancing is my earliest vinyl memory. I’d play it for a stranger because it’s a way of sharing something about myself before we’ve even had much of a conversation. That’s where records began for me: music you move to.”

Member notes — spinning, polaroids, margins — live here once you are in. Until then, the issue above is the reading.
